Gutter Contractors in the South Sound
Gutter Companies Near Me — Here's Who Actually Shows Up
Search "gutter companies near me" and you'll get a page of results where it's genuinely hard to tell what you're looking at: a national franchise with a local phone number, a directory that sells your information to four contractors at once, and somewhere in there, the actual local gutter guy. I'm the third kind. My name is Aaron Carver, I've been doing gutters across Pierce and Thurston County for over 5 years, and on most jobs I'm the one who answers the phone, does the estimate, and climbs the ladder.
What are you actually choosing between?
Most "gutter companies near me" results fall into three structures: an owner-operator who does the work himself, a franchise or multi-crew company that sends whoever is scheduled that day, and a lead-generation site that isn't a gutter company at all — it collects your information and sells it to contractors who then compete to call you back. The difference matters mostly for one reason: who is accountable when something goes wrong two winters from now.

Owner-operator (me) |
Franchise / multi-crew |
Lead-generation site |
| Who answers your first call |
Aaron, usually |
Office staff or an answering service |
A form, then several contractors you didn't pick |
| Who does the estimate |
The person who'll do the work |
Often a salesperson, not the installer |
Whoever bought your lead |
| Who's on the ladder |
Me, on most jobs |
Whichever crew is scheduled |
Unknown until they show up |
| Who you call about a problem later |
Same number, same person |
The office; the original crew may be gone |
Not the site — they aren't party to the job |
| License you can verify up front |
Published on this page |
Usually yes — ask which entity holds it |
Not until a contractor contacts you |
To be fair about it: plenty of multi-crew gutter companies do excellent work, and a big crew can finish a large job faster than one person can. I'm not going to pretend otherwise. The honest tradeoff is continuity — when the same person estimates, installs, and comes back, nothing gets lost in the handoff.
How to tell a real gutter contractor from a lead reseller
Before you hand over your phone number, look for three things on the page: a specific business name, a physical address, and a contractor license or UBI number. A real gutter company publishes all three because they're required to stand behind them. A lead-generation site usually publishes none of them, because the business you'd be hiring hasn't been decided yet.
- No business name anywhere above the fold — just "get matched with pros near you." That's a referral service, not a contractor.
- The form comes before any information. A real contractor tells you what they do first and asks for your number second.
- Four calls in twenty minutes after you submit. That's the business model working as designed — your information was sold to several contractors at once.
- No license number, no UBI, no address. In Washington these are public record for registered contractors. Leaving them off is a choice.
None of that means a directory is a scam — some are genuinely useful and upfront about how they work. It just means the site isn't the company, and you still have to vet whoever calls you. If you want the full version of that vetting process, including the state's own red-flag list, I wrote it out in how to actually vet a gutter contractor in Washington. It's written to be useful even if you hire someone else.
How do I verify a gutter contractor's license in Washington?
Washington's Department of Labor & Industries runs a free public lookup at secure.lni.wa.gov/verify. Search by business name, license number, or UBI number and you'll see whether the contractor is currently registered, bonded, and insured, plus any outstanding infractions. It takes about two minutes and you should do it for every bid you get, including mine.
One honest limit worth knowing: that tool confirms financial and compliance status, not workmanship. A contractor can be fully registered and still do mediocre work. It rules out the worst outcome; it doesn't replace checking reviews and references. There's also a Washington-specific detail most national advice misses — gutter cleaning doesn't require contractor registration here, but gutter installation does, because installation changes real estate.

Being registered as a General Contractor rather than a specialty contractor is the reason I can handle fascia repair or roof work in the same visit instead of telling you to call someone else about the soft board behind your gutter.
What hiring me actually looks like
No sales appointment, no presentation folder, no "manager special if you sign today." You call or text, I come look at the roofline in person, and you get a straight answer and a written number. If the fix is small, I'll tell you it's small — that's cost me jobs and earned me the ones that came after.
- You reach me directly. Call or text (253) 905-2220, or send a note through the contact page.
- I walk the property. Roofline length, pitch, corners, where water is actually going, and what shape the fascia is in behind the gutter.
- You get a specific number, not a range. Free estimate, itemized, no obligation to book on the spot.
- The work gets done by me on most jobs — not handed to a crew you've never met.
- I walk it with you before I leave and you have my number afterward. Same number, not a ticket queue.
What I'll tell you honestly
- When a repair is the right call instead of a full replacement
- When your gutters are fine and the real problem is drainage or grade
- That I don't install vinyl or steel gutters on homes in this climate, and why
- When a job is outside what I should be taking on
What homeowners usually call about
Water sheeting over the front edge during a storm even after a cleaning. A section sagging away from the fascia. The same seam leaking every single November. A house under mature firs that fills with needles twice a year. Those are the four that come up most, and three of the four are usually fixable without replacing the whole system.
What do gutter companies charge around here?
Local pricing, not a national average. These are the same figures I publish in my cost breakdowns, and they reflect what this work actually runs in the Tacoma and South Sound area. Your number depends on roofline length, height, pitch, corners, and how many downspouts the home really needs — which is why I look before I quote.
| Job |
Typical local range |
What moves the number |
| New seamless aluminum install |
$6.40-$11.10 per ft; most projects $2,800-$4,000 |
Roofline length, stories, corners, gauge |
| Full replacement (tear-off + new) |
$2,000-$5,000 |
Tear-off adds $1-2/ft, or $150-350 flat haul-off |
| Gutter repair |
$120-$900, averaging around $390 |
Resealing a seam vs. replacing a full section |
| Downspouts |
$30-$75 installed, each |
Most homes need one every 20-40 ft |
| Gutter guards / leaf filters |
$6-$20 per ft |
Guard type — mesh, micro-mesh, or screen |

What a gutter specialist should be able to handle
Plenty of gutter contractors only install. If the fascia behind your old gutter is soft, or the roof above it is thick with moss, that becomes your problem to solve separately. Because I'm licensed as a General Contractor, I can take care of the related exterior work in the same visit instead of referring it out.
Why homeowners pick a local gutter company over a franchise
- You get Aaron, not a call center. First call, estimate, the work, and the walkthrough — the same person on most jobs.
- 4.9 out of 5 stars across 91 reviews: 90 five-star, 1 four-star, none below four.
- Licensed General Contractor — UBI No. 604 801 940, L&I License No. ARSPESC748MF. Bonded and insured, and both are verifiable through the state.
- Over 5 years in business serving the South Sound specifically — not a national brand assigning out a territory.
- Free estimates, no pressure. Nothing gets scheduled until you've had time to think about it.
"Aaron was quick to respond, honest about the work, and the final result looked great."

"He made the whole process easy and took care of the gutters the right way."

— Satisfied client

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find a good gutter company near me? Start with the state license lookup at secure.lni.wa.gov/verify, then confirm a real business name and local address, then read reviews for patterns rather than single complaints. Finally, ask the contractor something specific about your house — a real answer references your property, not a script.
Are gutter contractors required to be licensed in Washington? For installation, yes — it changes real estate, so contractor registration is required. Gutter cleaning alone doesn't require registration, which is worth knowing when you're comparing bids for different kinds of work.
Will I be talking to you or a scheduler? Me, in nearly every case. I answer the phone, do the estimates, and perform the work on most jobs myself. On a larger job I may bring help, but I'm there.
Do you charge for an estimate? No. Free, in person, with no obligation to book. I'd rather you compare bids than feel cornered.
How many bids should I get? Two or three is plenty. Beyond that you're mostly collecting phone calls. Compare what's itemized in each one — the gap between a cheap quote and a fair one is usually tear-off, disposal, and downspout count.
What warranty should I expect? Labor coverage and manufacturer material coverage are usually two different lengths, so get both in writing from whoever you hire. I'd rather tell you exactly what's covered on your specific job, in writing, than post a blanket promise on a web page.
How fast can you get out here? It depends on the season. Fall is the busiest stretch of the year for gutter work around here, so I won't promise a date on this page that I can't hold to — call or text and I'll give you an honest answer the same day.
What if something goes wrong after the job? You call the same number you called the first time and you get the same person. That's the whole argument for hiring an owner-operator.
Still comparing gutter companies? Get one honest bid.
